Facebook to Shut Down Its Facial Recognition System

In a surprising move, Facebook has announced that it will be shutting down its facial recognition system and deleting all of its face scan data of more than 1 billion of its users.

Citing “concerns about the place of facial recognition technology in society” and the fact “regulators are still in the process of providing a clear set of rules governing its use”, it is unclear when Facebook plans to reenter the Facial recognition stage, and that’s definitely for the best.
