How to Further Secure Your Trezor Device

With your cryptocurrencies, you can never be too secure. Here are some of the recommended ways to secure your Trezor hardware devices and keep your coins safe.

The recovery seed is the single most important part about your Trezor wallet. Without having it saved, you can lose all access to your crypto, for good. Here are the guidelines as to where you should keep your recovery seed in the case of an emergency, as written by Trezor.

Where to keep your recovery seed card

In a locked drawer, away from water and fire.
In a place where no potential thieves are likely to access it.
Somewhere where your family members will find it if something unexpected happens to you.

Where NOT to keep your seed

Shared or public spaces (e.g., your office work desk)
Dropbox
Email
Anywhere online
Offline (digital) backup (e.g., phone, digital photos, etc.)
Encrypted folder

It is recommended to add a passphrase to your hardware device. The passphrase is a physical security measure, similar to a password, which makes it the layer of defense after the recovery seed. Physical attacks on your wallet can reveal the recovery seed, but without access to the passphrase, can make the seed useless altogether. It is advised to keep this passphrase safe in addition to your recovery seed card.
