A recent study conducted by Piplsay reported that among a sample size of 31,184 Americans, 40% of those polled are completely unaware that major retailers, such as Walmart and Target, utilize facial recognition technology within their stores.
This statistic, while problematic on its own, combined with the impressive capabilities of modern facial recognition systems and security cameras currently employed in retailers’ stores, displays that almost half of Americans are unaware that their every action and decision can be effectively tracked, and connected to their identity, when shopping in most big-name stores.
