The food delivery company Grubhub has announced a partnership with the self-driving sector of the Russian company Yandex, known as the Russian Google. The partnership entails the deployment of Yandex’s self-driving robots in over 250 USA college campuses.
The savings from eliminating delivery workers will result in an overall profit, even with delivery bot production and maintenance costs. Additionally, the delivery bots are said to be faster, scalable, and more efficient overall in comparison to delivery workers.
The effects of these technologies on the growing gig-service industry are still unforeseen, but it can be assumed that the wide-scale introduction of automated delivery bots such as the ones announced will negatively affect the industry as a whole.
